There are so many things to do on this island it can feel overwhelming. I've narrowed it down to the 5 experiences that are truly unmissable on your first trip. Save this page β you'll come back to it.
π€ Ocean Adventure
We did a raft tour and it ended up being our absolute favorite day on the entire island. The views are absolutely insane β towering sea cliffs, hidden sea caves, crystal-clear water. Morning and afternoon tours run about 4.5β5 hours and include snorkeling gear and snacks.
π‘ Fiona's tip: Book in advance β these sell out fast. Summer is better for snorkeling; winter tours may focus more on whale watching.
ποΈ Best Beach
My favorite beach on the entire island. There are some steep stairs and a rope section to get down here, so wear real shoes β but you will be rewarded with the most stunning views you've ever seen. Tucked below the Princeville cliffs on the North Shore.
π‘ Fiona's tip: Wear proper shoes for the descent. Go early morning for the best light and fewer people.
π¨ Luxury Stay
The prettiest hotel on the island β full stop. You don't have to stay here to experience it. Pop in for breakfast at 1 Kitchen, grab a cocktail at Welina Terrace at sunset, or book a spa treatment. Pools are for registered guests and 1 Club members only.
π‘ Fiona's tip: Book Welina Terrace for sunset drinks β one of the best views on the island and you don't need to be a guest to dine there.
π’ Wildlife Beach
Located on the sunny south shore, this place had SO many cute monk seals and sea turtles just resting on the sand. It has that true, authentic Hawaii feel. Stay behind the ropes and keep your distance from wildlife.
π‘ Fiona's tip: Go early morning or late afternoon for the best chance of spotting seals and turtles.
ποΈ Must-See Landmark
Rent a car and drive to Waimea Canyon β make sure to come on a clear day, otherwise you'll miss the views entirely. Do the scenic drive, stop at every lookout, and add the Kalalau Lookout at KΕkeΚ»e State Park if the weather is clear.
π‘ Fiona's tip: Check the weather forecast the night before. Combine with KΕkeΚ»e State Park and the Kalalau Lookout for the full experience.
I'll send you the exact day-by-day plan, the tour I booked, where to eat, and everything I wish I knew before going.

Early morning at PoΚ»ipΕ« Beach for seal and turtle spotting. Explore PoΚ»ipΕ« town, grab lunch, and relax on the beach in the afternoon.
Drive to Waimea Canyon β check the weather first! Do the canyon lookouts and KΕkeΚ»e State Park. Head back south for dinner.
